Celebrating 4-H, Youth, and Technology: The Nebraska 4-H Cyber Fair

Description: The journal article describes how a search for 4-H currricula available on the internet, blossomed into a major event – holding a 4-H Cyber Fair at the 2001 Nebraska State Fair. This eleven-day event demonstrated how Nebraska 4-H and Cooperative Extension use cutting-edge technology and brought a much needed boost to 4-H’s traditional image. It also served as a resource for recruiting 4-H’ers and 4-H Technology Team Members, as well as community partners. It familiarized youth with 4-H opportunities available through the internet and increased knowledge of 4-H among fairgoers statewide.

Relationship Between Participation in 4-H and Community Leadership in Rural Montana

Description: Studies on the impact of 4-H on former members generally use alumni as one cohort. In rural states, such as Montana, it is important to understand the impact of 4-H on alumni in these rural areas and the role 4-H plays in community involvement. The study reported here sought to determine the perception of current community leaders in rural Montana and the relationship between development of leadership skills and participation in 4-H. The study found that 4-H continues to influence rural community leaders in Montana, although it plays a modest role in influencing community involvement in all areas except agriculture groups.
