CYFAR Program Spotlight: 4-H Fitness and Nutrition Clubs, Connecticut Land Grant Institution or Extension Resource

Description: 4-H Fitness and Nutrition Clubs in Connecticut use the Jump Into Foods and Fitness curriculum developed at Michigan State University. It utilizes teen mentors and adult volunteers. An eight-week intervention phase is followed by an ongoing 4-H afterschool fitness club.

Voz de la Familia, Georgia Land Grant Institution or Extension Resource

Description: Voz de la Familia started as an after school child-care and nutrition program, but expanded greatly in response to community need. About 15% of Colquitt County, Georgia's population is Spanish-speaking new immigrants, a population with many risk factors. A series of shocking crimes in 2004 highlighted the need for communication with the longer-established community. Voz de la Familia, a CYFAR program, acted as liaison, collaborating with many other groups.
