These case studies focus on locally – owned rural businesses as opposed to branch plants or franchises. The selected businesses include rural firms of different sizes and in different stages of business development. These firms represent different types of communities with populations ranging from 300 to 57,053.

The diversity of the program allows staff to work with individuals to provide nutrition and food safety information and promote awareness of the issue of hunger in the state of Indiana. http://www.cfs.purdue.edu/safefood/sfhungry.asp The education provided includes nutrition and food safety information associated with emergency food feeding programs. Methods of delivery include a newsletter that addresses various topics related to nutrition and food safety. Copies of the newsletter and educational insert are available for download from the website and can be distributed to clients or staff.
