Every Child, Every Promise (ECEP), a study by the America’s Promise Alliance, takes a comprehensive look at the state of America’s youth by:
• Providing benchmarks on the number of children receiving the Five Promises – the essential development resources that children need to succeed in life (Caring Adults, Safe Places and Constructive Use of Time, A Healthy Start, Effective Education, and Opportunities to Make a Difference);
• Highlighting gaps in the delivery of the Five Promises;
• Giving us the unique perspective of young people themselves; and
• Demonstrating the economic benefit of investing in children’s needs.
This webinar includes a discussion of the findings from ECEP and a brief overview of the National Action Strategies that seek to address the deficits found in the report. Additionally, participants discussed the implications of the findings from ECEP and ways that communities and states can use the ECEP data and survey instruments
Jonathan F. Zaff, Ph.D., is the Vice President for Research & Policy Development at the America’s Promise Alliance. In this role, he directs all research activities at the America’s Promise Alliance, including the Every Child, Every Promise line of studies, which explores the essential resources that children and youth need to thrive and the economic rationale for providing those resources. Prior to joining the America’s Promise Alliance, Dr. Zaff was a research associate at Child Trends, where he focused on positive youth development initiatives, and an independent research consultant for a myriad of non-profits. His work primarily involves studying the content of social contexts that predict well-being throughout adolescence and into adulthood as well as identifying and tracking indicators of child well-being.
