The Diversity Project Team sponsored an online CENTRA training on Thursday March 4, 2004 from 2:00-3:30 P.M. Eastern Standard Time.
Listen and view the entire presentation (you will be prompted to install the Centra browser plug-in - not available for Macintosh)
The training will be conducted via CENTRA, interactive, web-based software.
The goal of the training was designed to introduce and familiarize you with
the "Strengthening Programs to Reach Diverse Audiences" curriculum, which was
developed by the CYFERNet funded Diversity Project at the University of Florida
(Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences). This curriculum was accepted
into the National Collections of 4-H Juried Curriculum as one of only three
staff development curricula. It is a comprehensive resource covering different
aspects of planning and implementing culturally relevant and responsive programs.
The six unit (14 total lessons) curriculum is designed to increase knowledge
and/or build skills in the following areas:
Unit 1) understanding diversity to design programs;
Unit 2) planning programs to break down cultural barriers;
Unit 3) marketing programs to diverse audiences;
Unit 4) maximizing assets to diverse communities to enhance program;
Unit 5) effective instruction for diverse audiences; and
Unit 6) working with diverse audiences over time.
Thus, this training is specifically designed for Extension and CYFAR faculty
who are designing and delivering programs to ethnically diverse audiences. We
invite you to participate in this CENTRA diversity training to explore the wealth
of information and resources available in the curriculum.
The training will help you to obtain information and guidelines for using the diversity curriculum and website. Included are PowerPoint slides for all lessons, all application exercises and other handouts, as well as training evaluation forms. These resources will assist you in your programming endeavors, but can also be useful as you train county faculty, volunteers and other agency collaborators in your state.
CENTRA provides enterprise software and services for real-time communication, collaboration & learning over the Web, with self-service meetings, Web seminars, virtual classes and more. It allows two-way audio and visuals over the Internet. The only items needed to participate in a CENTRA training session are: a PC (not compatible with MACs), Internet connection (high speed connection with Internet Explorer browser recommended), and a microphone/headset combo -OR- speakers and microphone. CENTRA also requires a small plug-in that is downloaded on the computer that you will be using for the event. Once you have registered for the event, you will get a username and a password to access CENTRA. You will also be sent procedures to setup and do a system check for your CENTRA software.
