CYFERnet is pleased to present an opportunity for you to learn more about developing a plan to ensure that your project is sustained. All you need is a telephone plus a computer with web access. This training is one of a series of live interactive training sessions that use the web and telephone conference calls that are being sponsored by CYFERnet.
Listen to the presentation (RealAudio player needed)
The information provided in this training is culled from seven years of data collection from a variety of community-based programs. The National Youth at Risk Sustainability study funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, CSREES through its CYFAR (Children, Youth, and Families at Risk) initiative provided 6 years of data for 94 projects targeted to at-risk youth and their families. The National Sustainability study, also funded through USDA/CSREES through CYFAR provided data from almost 70 State Strengthening community projects. Data was also collected from 46 community-based programs for youth and families (National Project to Identify Model Community Programs for Families at Risk, sponsored by the National Network for Family Resiliency and the Annie E. Casey Foundation) as well as data that was collected via a large-scale national survey focusing on organizational changes in 45 states (National Results of the Organizational Change Survey). All of the data informed the development of a Program Sustainability Index and the creation of a training manual for project personnel to develop plans for sustaining their projects.
This workshop is intended to help those that work with community-based programs focus on and begin to work through issues that are relevant to sustaining their programs. A brief review of related literature is presented to introduce the factors that aid in sustaining community-based programs. Then a step-by-step process is begun to help focus individuals and groups as they work their way through the process of grappling with issues that direct their work towards future sustainability. Having several project personnel from the same project could provide a valuable opportunity for these teams to begin or continue focusing their efforts on sustaining their project.
