The Extension CARES…for America's Children and Youth Initiative (ECI) is a national initiative of the Cooperative Extension System that aims to improve early care and education, school-age care, and teen out-of-school programs. The ECI evaluation and reporting system is designed to collect program information, evaluate programs, and report program activities, outputs, and outcomes for these areas.

This training session will give a brief overview of the background of the national initiative and go more in-depth in the specifics of the ECI evaluation and reporting system, Participants will have the opportunity to sample the evaluation instruments and browse the system to test how it might fit into existing reporting systems in their state.

Users have the option of using the system in three ways: tracking programs, summarizing client satisfaction evaluations, and reporting semi-annual activities, outputs and outcomes. By using this system users can answer evaluation questions such as: How comprehensive is my programming? Who is attending my programs? Am I reaching my target audience? How satisfied are participants that attend my programs? How do my client satisfaction ratings compare to state and national averages? How many youth in after-school programs have been reached through extension curriculum? To what extent have numbers of programs or slots increased?

Immediate reports at the local, regional, state or national level are available, allowing users to compare their averages to state and national averages. National aggregation of data will also be used to position Extension for more resources, which is critical during this time of budget cuts! Currently, there is no other evaluation system in place to collect this type of data on a national level.
