CYFERnet provides serveral opportunities for children, youth and family professionals to interact with each other using the WEB:
Blog - or Web Log - The CYFERnet Technology Blog provides current links to important issues, controversies, innovations and resources related to the use of information and communication technologies relevant to youth and family programs, the Cooperative Extension System, teaching and learning, and use in our day to day lives. Post your views and responses to these issues for an interesting exchange of ideas!
Online Communities (wikis) - Like real communities, online communities permit participants to interact with each other on a given topic. CYFERnet is using wikis to build online communities on a variety of subjects. Think of a wiki as a combination Web site and a word processing document. Web sites are for viewing only. So how does that relate to a word processing document that can be modified? In a wiki, groups can collaborate on the content of a site using nothing but a standard browser. Add to this a wiki's ability to track changes and you a have a powerful collaboration tool. The revision becomes the current version and edits can be rolled back if necessary. For more information on wikis, see here.
Receive announcements of new CYFERnet resource additions and online learning opportunities. This is an "announcement only" list that will send you short emails several times per month. It's easy to join the list. You can subscribe through the web. You can also subscribe by sending an email message to: listserv@lists.umn.edu. In the body of your message write: "subscribe cyfupdate John Doe" (replace "John Doe" with your first and last name. Do not use any signature or subject line).
CYFERnet also sponsors public EMAIL LISTS or Listservs you can join. Join a list for announcements about CYFAR relevant resources and opportunities (CYFAR), announcements about new programming resources and ideas (e.g., gCCamp, CYFUpdate), or to participate in an email discussion group on a specific children, youth, and families issue (e.g., BAPPS, Robotics) with interested colleagues.
