  • Introduce one game in software, let users play for 10 - 15 minutes.
  • Discuss questions in reflect, then introduce a second game or another activity.
  • Other games can be played at different times-depending on the attention span of the group and the setting, and the equipment you have available.

  • Apply
  • Prepare a corn-based snack. (popcorn, popcorn balls, tortilla chips or cornbread)
  • Use child-based web search engines such as www.yahooligans.com or www.ajkids.com to learn more about corn, vegetables, and the Mayan or Pueblo Indians.
  • Place 5- 6 grains for corn and a damp (squeeze out excess moisture) paper towel in a small plastic bag. Seal it and place in a warm spot where it will have daylight. Watch for corn to sprout.

  • Visit a farmer's market or grocery store. Look for different kinds of vegetables. Talk about where they are grown.
  • Invite a farmer or a gardener to visit. Ask them to talk about growing corn or other crops

  • Introduce the food pyramid. One source of information is www.usda.gov/news/usdakids Have users write down what they eat in a day and chart in on the food pyramid. Talk about healthy food choices.

  • 5 a Day Adventures is a CD-Rom made for Dole Food Company. It is designed to teach and motivate children about fruits and vegetables. It includes 6 educational modules.
  • Pyramid Explorations, a curriculum on nutrition is published by the National Dairy Council, Rosemont, IL 60018-5616. 1-800-426-8271.
  • Plan and plant a garden at your site. Check with your cooperative extension office for information on gardening.
