Summer Safety Resources

It's time for summer! While summer can be a lot of fun for parents and
kids, it's also a peak time for accidents. Less supervision and more outdoor
activities increase accidents during the summer months. CYFERnet has lots
of resources that can help make your summer a safe and enjoyable one!
Check out some of these resources that can help you plan for a safer summer
for the whole family.
- For some general tips, go to these summer safety pages by University
of Missouri Outreach and Extension and the
American Academy of Pediatrics.
- With children spending more time outdoors in the summer, the resources
in CYFERnet's
Early Childhood Outdoor Safety section provide tips for keeping
kids safe outside.
- With mosquito season kicking into gear, you may be worried about
the West Nile Virus. The CDC
West Nile Virus Home Page provides information about the virus
and prevention tips.
- Summer safety isn't just for young children. Teens also need to be
reminded about safety. Keepkidshealthy.com
has a useful fact sheet about adolescent safety including driving,
fire, gun, and sports safety. Since teens often have more free and
unsupervised time during the summer,
Talking with Kids about Tough Issues reminds parents to talk with
their teens about issues such as alcohol, drugs, sex, and violence.
