Summer is here! As parents and kids enjoy the seemingly carefree elements of summer, remember that this is also the time that emergency room doctors know as "trauma season." Accidents peak during the summer months (May to August) because children are supervised less, have more free time, and engage in more outdoor activities. Don't take a vacation from safety. CYFERnet has lots of resources that can help make your summer a safe and enjoyable one! Check out some of these resources that can help you plan for a safer summer for the whole family:

Great general ideas and tips can be found at Summer Safety. In addition, the National Safe Kids Campaign, and the American Academy of Pediatrics offer thoughtful reminders of summer safety for children and youth.

For most children, summer means lots of outdoor play. CYFERnet's Outdoor Safety Resources have ideas to keep your kids safe during the summer.

As July 4th approaches, firework safety should be the first thought in any celebration. Check out Fireworks Fact Sheet for safety tips and state regulations regarding Fireworks.

For information on a variety of summer health topics, including bee stings, poisoning, burns, and other summer dangers, go to the Summer Safety Tips from USCD Poison Control and USCD Regional Burn Center. Summer also brings special concerns for outdoor recreation on hot days. To help your family deal with summer heat and still have fun, check out Hot Weather Tips and Sun Protection Guide for Children.

During summer, the use of computers and the internet by youth increase. A new report entitled YOUTH, PORNOGRAPHY & THE INTERNET discusses approaches to protecting children and teens from Internet pornography, threats from sexual predators operating on-line, and other inappropriate material on the Internet.
