Homework and Succeeding
For March and April Hot Topics is focusing on homework and how it helps children and youth succeed. With an ever increasing focus in our school placed on academic success the research shows that children doing homework are succeeding beyond their peers not doing homework. Two new research reports are:
- Parental Involvement in Homework, A Review of Current Research and Its Implications for Teachers, After School Program Staff and Parent Leaders, from Harvard Family Research Project
- Short-term outcomes of a homework assistance program: A model of program impact on students and families.

After school program staff may find the USDA / Army Youth Development Project Homework Manual helpful if considering starting homework help or tutoring within their program. The Homework Center Manual is designed to provide practical information on how to establish and maintain a homework center for youth ages 6 to 18.
