Child Abuse Literature & Annotations:
- National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information – The Clearinghouse provides information products and technical assistance services to help professionals locate information related to child abuse and neglect and related child welfare issues. The Clearinghouse can help you find research, statistics, State laws, and resources on such topics as prevention, child protection, out-of-home care, and permanency planning.
- Selected Resources on Emotional Abuse of Children: An Annotated Bibliography For Researchers, Educators, and Consumers – A list of resources regarding child abuse that includes books, journal articles, and dissertations.
- Partner, Child Abuse Risk Factors Literature Review – Comprehensive literature review of partner and child abuse and neglect research.

National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome – This Web site provides information on Shaken Baby Syndrome for prevention professionals and parents. Prevention materials are available for purchase and a number of articles are available online. You can also learn more about their speakers and conferences.
General Prevention Resources:
- National Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children – The National Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children's principal mission is to enable people to prevent crime and build safer, more caring communities. The website provides information on child abuse, shaken baby syndrome, gangs, and tips for kids and parents.
- Child Assault Prevention Project – This article gives suggestions for ways that parents and caregivers can help prevent physical and sexual assault of young children. The author suggests that children can be empowered with knowledge and skills that may prevent an assault by an adult. The article also provides additional references on child abuse.
- Parents Anonymous, Inc. – This is the Web site of Parents Anonymous, a national organization dedicated to strengthening families and preventing child abuse. The site includes articles and tips on parenting and a listing of local support groups.
- Preventing Child Assault – This newsletter article discusses preventing assaults on children by talking to your children about abuse.
- When You Feel Like...Lashing Out – This fact sheet gives some general information about child abuse and includes tips for parents on avoiding child abuse and getting help.
- You Have the Power to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect – This article suggests ways you can help to prevent child abuse and help support parents in your community. Contains several links to community resources. Also available in Spanish (Usted tiene el poder de prevenir el abuso y la negligencia de menores).
Resources for Child Care Professionals:
- Caregivers of Young Children: Preventing and Responding to Child Maltreatment – A manual for child caregivers with information on identifying child abuse, the professionals' role and responsibilities, minimizing the risk of abuse in programs, working with abused children, and supporting parents. Also available in PDF.
- Child Abuse Prevention Part II – Part 2 of this two-part newsletter series provides suggestions for preventing child abuse within child care programs. It also provides information about professional responsibility with regard to child abuse.
- NAEYC's Position Statement on the Prevention of Child Abuse in Early Childhood Programs and the Responsibilities of Early Childhood Professionals to Prevent Child Abuse – This position statement provides NAEYC's recommendations and strategies to prevent child abuse in early childhood programs, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, to the greatest extent possible.
Sexual Abuse of Children:
- Sexual Abuse of Children – This fact sheet provides information about the definition of sexual abuse, how to prevent sexual abuse of children and what to do if you suspect a child has been sexually abused. Includes two resources for further information. (also available in PDF)
- Preventing Sexual Abuse of Children – This four-page publication offers tips for preventing children from being sexually abused and how to report abuse.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse:
- Child Abuse and Neglect – This fact sheet provides information about physical and behavioral signs of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect in children. It also provides information on protecting your child from abuse and responding when abuse or neglect is suspected.
- Child Abuse: A Painful Secret – This article examines causes and prevention of child abuse. It includes information on signs of abuse and what to do if you suspect abuse.
- Understanding Child Abuse: Child Abuse and Neglect – This fact sheet defines abuse and neglect and discusses reporting child abuse and indications of abuse. It also has information on prevention.
